Increase in Chinese Tourism = Profits for this Online Travel Company

In this Issue:

With the passing of the Memorial Day holiday here in the U.S., many people are gearing up for the summer driving and traveling season. Families are starting to plan their summer vacations to tourist destinations in the U.S. like the Grand Canyon or Florida's sandy beaches, or planning foreign excursions to exotic islands in the Caribbean or backpacking trips in Europe.

The same holds true for many Chinese, though most of their trips will involve excursions to tourist destinations in Asia. Tourism in China is picking up right now, with many Chinese planning trips to some of the touristiest spots in China and all of Asia.

Some of the favorites on many of their lists will likely include: the terra cotta army museum in Xian, China; the city of Beijing; and the Las Vegas of Asia, Macau. Let's take a brief look now at why these destinations appeal to many Chinese.

Xian, China: Personally, I have visited Xian on a number of occasions and taken private tours of the fabled terra cotta warrior museum. And on each visit, more and more local tourists are visiting the museum -- far outnumbering foreign tourist groups.

The terra cotta museum is home to 8,099 unique, life-sized clay statues, including foot soldiers, horsemen, chariots, horses, and generals. All were found 35 years ago when three local farmers were drilling a well for irrigation.

The area has since become a popular attraction to the Chinese, as it is rich in history. More than 2,250 years ago, Qin Shi Huang -- the emperor who unified China and built the Great Wall -- was buried near Xian in a massive underground complex. The terra cotta statues were created and buried near his grave in the belief that they would protect him after his death.
